Forging

What is Forging?

Forging as its name suggests is the art of heating and shaping the hot metal to a desired form . This involves hammering , rolling , pressing and other ways of obtaining a predetermined shape . We have partnered with a number of forging manufacturers who cater to the needs of industries like aerospace , automobile , agricultural equipment , railways and other industrial equipment .

Our forging capabilities

Drop forging

The process of dropping a hammer onto the heated metal to mould it into the shape of the die is known as drop forging. The die is the part of the tool that makes contact with the metal.

Press forging

In press forging, metal sits on a stationary die while a compression die applies continuous pressure, achieving the desired shape.

Roll forging

Roll forging is the process of increasing rods or wires in length. The manufacturer places heated metal bars between two cylindrical rolls with grooves, which rotate and apply progressive pressure to shape the metal.

Upsetting

Upset forging is a forging process that increases the diameter of the metal through compression.

Advantages

  • Forging gives a comparatively tougher product compared to casting.
  • The fatigue strength and creep resistance of forged products are higher.
  • Low cost operation.
  • This process does not require special skills from the operator.
  • A variety of shapes can be formed by this process.
  • Disadvantages

  • Large forging presses have a higher initial cost.
  • A secondary finishing process is required in hot forging.
  • The size of the press determines the size of the forged item .
  • Brittle metal cannot be forged.
